Community Matters

Community includes Everyone

Selby Meadow's  is a Green Space to be inclusive to all who want to enjoy the great outdoors on their doorstep

A Harvest Free to Enjoy

We pride ourselves on the fruit, berries, nuts and herbs that grow in the meadow and it's free for all those who wish to eat them which includes the wildlife, birds and insects, but there is normally plenty to go round.

Community Events

We try to hold at least one big event a year for the whole community to enjoy. We raise funds through donations and grant schemes to cover the costs of the refreshments plus we receive  kind donations of home baked from individuals also funding from Uckfield based local charities like the Uckfield Lions and Uckfield Bonfire Society,  together ensuring  everyone has a good time.

Without all these resources, this would not happen so a big thank you to everyone.

Celebrating with Cake

We have projects throughout the year and often when completed we hold open invites and together we celebrate our achievements. This is often helped by lots of chatting, tea ,cake and fruit juices.

Looking Forward 2026/7

Both green spaces are reliant on volunteers , donations and  grant funding and there are always things to do and normally plans to make. Looking towards 2026/7 Selby Meadow will continue with it's Re-Wilding  and Going Greener campaigns and seek funding to replace the rotten mud kitchen in the children's forest school area plus a wooden sculpture , that's kind to the environment and safe for play to sit in the position where the wooden plane used to occupy.

The plane was made and donated by one of it's volunteers 5 years ago and provided years of fun for many but sadly it  had to be removed due to becoming unsafe in the autumn 2025.

A wildlife nature trail is also another idea for the meadow, offering another reason to investigate the whole of the area, while picking up information about insects, wildlife, plants and trees that you come across along the way.

Plant a Pear tree to replace the one that had to be felled in 2025 because it was at the end of its life.

Plant more fruit and edible flowers in Selby Meadow and our other community garden Keld Close, for everyone to enjoy.

A summer family event will be held if funding allows, along with seasonal topic fun days and social garden gathers will recommence in warmer weather.

Look out for invites on social media sites and posters in local notice boards for news and updates.
